Happy Saturday readers! The weather has really turned after such a mild December.

There is one good thing about the colder weather, however: stews! Nothing is more satisfying than tucking into a rich slow-cooked stew after a cold January day. Growing up near the coast in Italy we would have lamb and pork during winter. You could make Ciaudedda using the pancetta with artichoke, potato and broad beans. Or use sausages and add lentils for protein.

Hello food lovers. It’s my birthday shortly and I will let you into a little secret, which is that I actually have two birthdays! My father accidentally registered my birth on the wrong day, so of course I just have to celebrate on both dates.

This year for my actual birthday I’ll be cooking a porchetta, a traditional Italian pork roast. My favourite butcher has just opened a new farm shop here in Surrey at Crockford Bridge Farm so I can get my porchetta locally.
